Priorities agreed to support our workforce

System-wide priorities have been agreed to ensure our workforce are supported in the year ahead.

Significant focus is being given to health and care staff following a year of extreme pressure and demand in the face of COVID-19.  In Sussex, it is recognised that the system is only as good as the people working within it and it is vital there is a system-wide, focused strategy that helps support them.

In order to do this, workforce priorities have been agreed, with associated principal workstreams and actions for 2021/2022 within a People Plan. Those priorities will allow us to focus on staff across the system and underpin everything we are doing to develop health and care in Sussex for the benefit of everyone who relies on our services.

The priorities are:

  • Looking after our people;
  • Embedding inclusion and equality of opportunity;
  • Recruiting, developing and retaining our people; and
  • Leading and managing our people

The current people plan builds on the interim plan agreed in September last year and reflects the priorities and requirements of the national People Plan.

We know that as the legislative changes for health and care become more advanced a more comprehensive People Plan will need development but it is crucial that we work hard to support and grow staff as that is developed; particularly at a time of change and in the aftermath of COVID-19.

These priorities were agreed by the Partnership Executive last month and will now be developed and established by partners in their individual organisations.
