New appointments announced for NHS Sussex Integrated Care Board

Six new Non-Executive Directors have been appointed in preparation for the launch of NHS Sussex in July.

Louise Ansari, Susan Marshall MBE, Bola Lafe, Professor Ashok Soni OBE and Paul King have been appointed as Non-Executive Director Designates and Faustino Bayo as an Associate Non-Executive Director Designate. They will start in their roles this month and will support the establishment of NHS Sussex over the next four months.

NHS Sussex will be one of the 42 Integrated Care Boards (ICBs) that are being set up across the country from 1 July 2022, subject to parliamentary approval as part of the proposed Health and Care Bill.

NHS Sussex will become a statutory body and will take on NHS strategic planning, resource allocation and commissioning functions in Sussex, and then lead the improvement and integration of high-quality health and care services for all of our communities.  The aim of this new organisation is to improve health outcomes, tackle health inequalities, enhance value for money, and support broader social and economic growth across Sussex.

Non-Executive Directors (NEDs) will perform a key role on the Board by providing independent scrutiny and assurance on key decisions, in addition to bringing external experience into the development of our new plans to improve health and care across Sussex. Each NED will also champion key aspects of our NHS system development:

  • Louise Ansari – NED for Population Outcomes
  • Susan Marshall – NED For Patient Experience
  • Bola Lafe – NED for System Productivity
  • Ashok Soni – NED for Workforce and Remuneration
  • Paul King – NED for Audit and Risk Management
  • Faustina Bayo – Associate NED

Stephen Lightfoot, Chair Designate of NHS Sussex, said:

“I am delighted to be welcoming our new NEDs and I look forward to working with them as we build and develop our new Board. They each bring a wealth of experience and expertise that will help the system develop and challenge our thinking so that we can deliver our aim of providing better health and care for all across Sussex”.

“Their appointment is significant in our development as an ICB for the benefit of our communities and signals a step closer to NHS Sussex becoming a reality from 1 July.”
